Walter Llyod Simpson

Walter Llyod Simpson, age 69, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.

 

Walt was born on December 17, 1952, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Walter Albert Simpson and Evelyn Margaret (Bealer) Simpson.  He grew up in Caney, Kansas where he attended local schools and graduated from Caney Valley High School.  He spent a short time in the U.S. Army until receiving his honorable discharge due to medical related issues. 

 

For many years Walt was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Walt worked as an electrician for around 30 years.  Some of his time was spent working for the Union but the majority of his career he was a self-employed electrician going by the business name, Whippoorwill Electric. 

 

Walt was united in marriage to Darlene Hindle, of that union a son, Jerry was born.  The couple later divorced.

 

In 1979 he married June McCartney in Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in Caney.  Walt had his son, Jerry and June had her son, Robert McCartney from previous marriages and together they had two sons, Daniel and Aaron.  After several years together he and June later divorced.

 

Walt later married Juanita Hunt.  The couple later divorced after several years.

 

Walt enjoyed hunting, hiking the sandhills in Caney, he made wood and cane flutes, he was great at drawing and loved art, he liked to play video games, he enjoyed sci-fi and fantasy, he collected Star Wars memorabilia and toys.  Walt was very talented with instruments; he could pick up just about anything and within a short amount of time could play it decently.  He enjoyed going to the fiddle shop in Bartlesville, Oklahoma when it was open, he also liked to go to antique stores.   He loved his motorcycle and going to bike rallies.  Walt was also part of a club known for rendezvous, they would get together and do primitive reenactments, or camping and living off the land outings.  He loved his dog, Trixie and most of all loved the time he spent with his kids and grandkids.

 

Surviving to cherish his memory are his sons, Daniel Simpson and wife, Norma of Coffeyville, Aaron Simpson of Coffeyville, Jerry Simpson and wife, Brandy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, stepson Robert McCartney of Independence, Kansas, grandchildren, Emelyn, Arianna, Adrian and River Simpson, Lorelei Simpson and Zaccara Simpson, brothers, William "Bill" Webber and wife, Robbin of Caney, Kansas, Tom Webber and wife, Melissa of Bixby, Oklahoma along with several extended relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Simpson and Evelyn Webber.

 

Following Walt's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.  No public services are scheduled at this time.
