One of the biggest Beatles fanatic and a proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War passed from this life on April 30, 2021 at his home with his family at his side.                                                                                             

 

Born the only brother to five sisters in Sterling, Kansas to Vernon and Patty (Worth) Cron, Jimmy Duane Cron was welcomed on August 3, 1948. Jimmy was raised in Lyons until the family moved to Hutchinson where he started school, then moving to Wichita, and finally landing in Caney where he graduated with the class of 1966. Jimmy began working at Consumers Market where he became a favorite of many customers, always polite and respectful and he could sack groceries like nobody's business. He then joined the United States Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Caney and enrolled in classes at Coffeyville Community College. Jimmy worked some odd jobs at Spears, the box factory, and for local contractors as a painter. Jimmy loved music, camping, the lake, old black and white movies, MASH, Gunsmoke, fishing, and writing poetry. He was funny, respectful, kind, and even as an adult he would finish a meal by kissing his mom on the forehead and thanking her for preparing it. Being the only boy with all of those sisters you could bet there was teasing and pranks pulled but he would go down fighting for his family. Jimmy was a saved member of the Tyro Christian Church where he faithfully attended until his health made it impossible to attend. His mornings started with the raising of the flag followed by a salute and he took it down each evening and folded it up right, he loved his country which he bravely served.                                     

              

Jimmy's memories will live on with his mother Patty Cron of Caney, his sisters; Judy Kok her husband Ed of Caney, Janice Cron of Caney, Jean Cron of Caney, Jonita Biggerstaff of Coffeyville, and Julie Hester of Coffeyville, several nieces, nephews, and greats.                                                                                                    

 

 He now rests with his dad Vernon and grandparents; Bill and Mabel Cron, Lola (Worth) Kent, and Fernon Worth.   

 

Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville, at 2:00pm. The family suggests memorials be made payable to Tyro Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and they may be sent in care of Potts Chapel of Caney 107 N State Street Caney, KS 67333.
