Lola Janice was born on July 31, 1947 to Frank and Addie (Taylor) McCartney in Angola, Kansas. Frank calling his daughter his “Little Peach” and “Peach” was what everyone knew her by.  Peach attended school in Labette County where she also graduated from Labette County High School.

On April 30, 1966 Peach married the man of her dreams, Thomas “Tom” Newton and they were just about to celebrate their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Together they made their home in Coffeyville, raising their two children: Benji and Kellie Rae.

Peach worked at HD Lee, managed Braum’s in Coffeyville, and Independence for about 15 years and The Optic Shop until her retirement.  Peach never knew a stranger and loved people.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning her harvest, sewing, and fishing. By far her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.

Peach was loved by her family more than words could ever express and will treasure their memories.  She is survived by her husband, Tom of the home; son Benji Newton and his wife Missy; daughter Kellie Rae and her husband Ray Tesh; brother Kenneth McCartney and his wife Shirley; brother-in-law DeWayne Newton and his wife Shirley; sister-in-law Stella and her husband Kirby Ferrell; grandchildren Tyler Tesh, Hayden Tesh, Garrett Tesh, Elayna Newton, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Addie McCartney; brother Clifford McCartney; sisters Laura Walker and Sharma Lee McCartney; brother-in-law Steve Walker.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 2 pm at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio, 2406 Woodland Ave. Coffeyville.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, mask and social distancing will be required. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made payable to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave Coffeyville, KS 67337. As much as the family wishes they could have a large reception after the service the risk of the virus is too great, and they want everyone to stay safe so they can gather when it is safe.
