Muriel Haroldine Shy

Muriel Heroldine Shy, 86, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away on Thursday March 11, 2021.

 

She was born at home in rural Caney, Kansas to Harold and Muriel (Burtrum) Pollet on July 19, 1934.

 

After graduating from Caney High School, she graduated from Pittsburg State College with a degree in education.   Heroldine was introduced to her future husband, Jack Shy, by one of her students at a box supper. They were later married on June 1, 1958 in Coffeyville, KS. She was a teacher over 35 years. She taught in various rural schools before joining the Coffeyville school district. Her most beloved school was Cleveland Elementary.

 

Heroldine enjoyed making stuffed animals for the children at Harlingen Hospital as well as other various organizations. She was a member of the Good Sam's Club and the Carrylite Club. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. After she and her husband retired in 1992, they became winter-birds each year in Harlingen, TX. She continued to travel to Texas after her husband passed until Covid-19.

 

Heroldine is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, of 52 years of marriage on November 30, 2010. She was also preceded in death her parents, a brother, a great-niece, and two nephews.

 

 Heroldine is survived by a son, Jack Shy, Jr. of Coffeyville, Kansas; a daughter Billie Wages (Philip) of Norman, Ok; and grandson Joshua Wages of Norman, OK; grandson Nathan Wages (Jelena) along with great-grandson, Bridger Wages of Lancaster, Ohio, and one great-grandchild on the way; brother Wesley Pollet (Josephine) of Desoto, TX; sister-in-law Janet Pollet of Ropesville, TX.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Due to the pandemic there will be a Graveside Service at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah, OK on Friday, March 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Budg Riekeman will officiate.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign the guest register.

 

David W. Barnes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
