Sandra Kay "Sandy" Benning

Sandra Kay “Sandy” Benning, 70, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

 

She was born on September 26, 1950 at Coffeyville to Darlene Swigert. When Sandy was an infant she was adopted by Orval Chester and Lucy Elizabeth (Killion) Scott. She grew up in Dearing where she attended Dearing School and graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville and attended Coffeyville Community College.

 

On October 26, 1968 she married Paul Benning at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they lived in several different parts of the United State while Paul served in the military, following his discharge they returned to Coffeyville where they raised their family.

 

Sandy began her working career at the Farmers Insurance Agency in Coffeyville, she later worked at Nu-Way Foodliner, Farm Bureau Insurance, Central Insurance Agency, Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, and Restlawn Memorial Park before starting her current job as Music Instructor and Holy Name Catholic School which she truly loved.

 

Sandy was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church proving music for Masses and many weddings and funerals. She loved working with children, especially when she got the interested in music. She also loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved Christmas with her sisters.

 

Survivors include her husband, Paul of the home; her children, Larry Benning and wife, Jennifer Ann of Coffeyville, and Linda Soard of Dearing; her grandchildren, Tommy Ray Benning of Coffeyville and Amanda Marie Garza and husband, Ray of Joplin, Missouri; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Amann, Kelsey Lynn Amann, Robert Gene Amann, Bailee Rae Benning, and Harper Lynn Musselman; her brothers and sisters, Jimmy Collins of Independence, Fay Thornbrugh of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Ruth Ann (Joe) Collins of Coffeyville; Donald Collins of Coffeyville, Sharon Felton of Independence, Betty Smith of Coffeyville, Larry (Linda) Collins of Coffeyville, Peter (Penny) Collins of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Sandy Dee (Ron) Henry of Coffeyville.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Lucy Scott; her birth mother, Darlene Collins, and siblings, Chester Scott and his wife, Judith; Mike Collins and Nellie Goodwin.

 

The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 15th at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Daniel Lorimer officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.

 

Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
