Roger Gene Freeman

Roger Gene Freeman, 73, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his home.

 

He was born on February 11, 1948 at Caney, Kansas to Robert E. and Mildred J. (Potter) Freeman. Roger grew up in the Chautauqua, Kansas where he attended Chautauqua Grade School and Sedan High School graduating In 1966. He furthered his education at Pittsburg State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree, Roger later earned a Master’s Degree from Wichita State University.

After graduating from Pittsburg State University Roger taught and coached for several years in the Wellington, Kansas school system. While coaching at Wellington he was honored as Coach of the Year. He later returned to Sedan and worked in the oil production industry,

 

In May of 1973 he married Jackie Boulanger, they had two daughters, Shelly and Felecia. They were later divorced. He later married Fran McElroy and they were divorced.

 

In 1992 he married Ruth Darnall, she survives of the home.

 

Roger was a proud member of the Osage Indian Tribe, and was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, and the Sedan Country Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals and old westerns on TV. Roger was an accomplished water skier and loved trick skiing.

 

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home; his daughters, Shelly Dimit and husband, Jake of Wichita, Kansas, Felicia White and husband, Michael of Basehor, Kansas; step-daughters, Kristan Sampson and husband, Jake of Carls Bad, California; step-son, Korey Benton of Fort Collins, Colorado; brother, Mark Freeman and wife, Penny of Maize, Kansas; sister, Cindy Sharp and husband, Robert of Severy, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and uncle, Delbert Sumter of Pawnee, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Mildred Freeman; and one sister, Cheryl Freeman Bolack; his grandparents, James “Leon” and Lettie Potter, and Ralph and Pearl Bowman.

 

A Graveside Service celebrating Roger’s life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas with Danny Williams officiating.

 

The family will greet friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sedan Community Building at the Sedan Golf Course.

Memorials in Roger’s memory are suggested to the Sedan Golf Course or Sedan Community Building at Sedan Golf Course; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS  67337.
