Gene Tucker

Gene Tucker, age 77, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at his home.  

 

Gene was born on August 25, 1943 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Fred and Edna (Walton) Tucker.  He attended Longfellow Elementary School, Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College.  While attending college, Gene worked as road manager for the Rising Suns band and traveled with the band for 2 ½ years.  

 

On March 28, 1972 he married Mereda Kay McFall in Coffeyville, Kansas where the couple made their home.  

 

Gene worked at Funk Manufacturing for 10 years as a machinist.  He then became Montgomery County Rural Fire Department Director, a position he held for 26 years until his retirement.  After his retirement, Gene was elected to serve as a County Commissioner for 4 years.  He then decided to own and operate Eagle Security Services for a number of years.  Gene became a very familiar face at the CCC football and basketball games where he worked security for many years.  

 

Gene was a member of the Church of Christ.  He also stayed active in many clubs and organizations.  He served on the board of directors for Kansas Music Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  He was a member of the Kansas Fire Chief’s Association, the 1500 Club, the Magnificent 8 group, and numerous car clubs over the years. 

 

Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Mereda Kay of the home; nieces, Karen Shufeldt, Terri (Bill) Mendenhall, Liza Herbig, Bill Mendenhall, Cathy (Mike) Reeves, Cody (Julia) Isle, Casey Isle, Jo Reeves, MaKaelyn Reeves, Nikki (Mark) Pease, Zach (Tiffany) Reeves, Lane Reeves, Lisa White, Becki White, Bradley White, Emmalee White, Brandie White, Brody, Gavin, and Kord Woody, Scott (Brandy) McFall, Hurley McFall, Shane (Michelle) McFall, Thane, Khane, Brody and Emmry McFall, Kevin (Michelle) Osborn, Landon, Meadow, Linda, Gary, David (Norma) Osborn, Trinity Osborn, Debi Osborn, Nate Pawley and Gabi Pawley; special daughters, Susan Tucker Hobbs and Lisa Sheppard.  Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Tucker; a brother, Jim Tucker;  a sister, Linda Waggoner; and special nephews, Mike White, and Chris Isle.

                                                                  

A Memorial Service celebrating Gene’s life will take place Friday, Feb 19th at 10 am at the Coffeyville Church of Christ, 1005 Siggins St.; The family would ask that if you attend the service please wear masks and practice good social distancing.

 

The family will greet friends on Thursday, February 18th from 4 - 6 pm  at the Coffeyville Church of Christ.

Memorial contributions can be made in Gene Tuckers name, c/o David W Barnes Funeral Home. The funds will be allocated at a later date; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
