Barbara Jean Johnson

Barbara Jean Johnson, 86, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

 

She was born on January 1, 1935 in Coffeyville to Claude and Lois (Thompson) Colley. Barbara grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School.

 

On December 25, 1953 she married the love of her life Jimmy L. Johnson at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Virginia where her husband was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge they returned to Coffeyville where they raised their two daughters, Donna and Vickie. Over the years Barbara worked at Newberry’s and later at Jack and Patti’s Deli in Nu-Way Grocery Store and Jack and Patti’s Diner on West 9th St.. Her husband preceded her in death on December 13, 2016.

 

Barbara was a proud Golden Tornado and Red Raven fan, she was a former member of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and loved meeting her high school friends for lunch. But her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her son-in-law, Don Males of Coffeyville; four grandchildren, Casey Starnes of Springfield, Missouri, Jaime Grant and husband, Mario of Coffeyville, Craig Males and wife, Tamara of Coffeyville and Kara Males of Coffeyville; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Colley of Lawerence, Kansas.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmy Johnson; two daughters, Donna Starnes and Vickie Males; and two sisters, Joyce Briggs, and Connie Carrol.

 

Following Barbara’s wishes cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
