David Allen Morris

David Allen Morris, 67, of Independence, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Montgomery Place in Independence after a long battle with cancer.

 

Dave was born on September 12, 1953 in San Jose, California to Bob and Elaine (Mullins) Morris. He grew up in Norman, Oklahoma where he attended local schools.

 

On November 16, 1970 he joined the United States Marine Corp and completed Jet engine and helicopter school in Memphis, Tennessee. He then served as a helicopter mechanic at Marine Corp Base Camp LeJune in Jacksonville, North Carolina until he was honorable discharged on November 15, 1974.

 

In early 1975 he moved to Independence, Kansas where he married Leslie Anne Pohl. They later divorced. Then on March 27, 1993 he married Linda Roxanne Martinez in Bolton, Kansas.

 

In 1982, he opened Dave’s Body Shop and Wrecker Service along with his friend and business partner David Hines. He enjoyed his job, whether it was out assisting a stranded motorist in the wrecker or working with a customer back at the body shop, he would always go out of his way to help people. He co-owned the business for 35 years until his retirement in 2017.

 

Dave was a member of the American Legion and the Shriners Club. He was a huge Oklahoma Sooners fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching old westerns on TV, hanging out with his dog Callie and spending time with family and friends.

 

He is survived by his his wife, Linda Morris of Independence; three children, Corey Morris and wife, Ashley, Jeff Morris and Jessica Morris all of Independence; six brothers and sisters, Bobby Morris and wife, Cathi, Kenny Morris and wife, Robin, Sherry Morgan and husband, Woody, Sandy Morris, and Ginny Sanders all of Norman, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren; Easton, Ava, Braeden, Davin, Rowan and Madden.

 

Dave was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Bob and Katie Morris, and a brother, Britt Morris, and Paul Morris.

 

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Jefferson Cemetery with Pastor Judy Mustain of LifePoint Church in Coffeyville officiating. Followed by a Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Independence.

 

Memorials can be made to the Cancer Center in Independence; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
