Mark A. McKown

Mark A. McKown, age 69, of Coffeyville, Kansas died on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

 

Mark was born on March 6, 1951 in Independence, Kansas to Arch and Janie “Pearl” (Wallace) McKown. Mark grew up in Independence, Kansas and Mission, Kansas. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1969 and later received an associate's degree from Labette (Kansas) Community College.

 

While living in the Kansas City area, Mark worked as a chef and enjoyed teaching others in the culinary arts. He also worked as an exterminator. For a time he lived in New Mexico where he worked in road construction. He then lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he worked at Hewlett Packard.

 

Due to his mother's health, Mark moved to Coffeyville in the early 1990's to help care for her. He then worked as a security guard at Cessna Aircraft, Independence, KS, Coffeyville Regional Medical Center and John Deere, Coffeyville, KS.

 

Mark enjoyed fishing, music, photography and computers. He touched the lives of all those that knew him and will be dearly missed.

 

Surviving to honor his memory are his loving sister, Patricia Smith of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother, Chuck McKown and wife Kelly, of Eagan, Minnesota; thirteen nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews along with other close relatives and friends.

 

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Jerry Paul McKown; a brother, Jon McKown and a sister, Kathlyn Coleman.

 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. No services will be held at this time. A family gathering to celebrate Mark’s life will take place at a later date.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
