Deloris Jean Ransbottom Moore Metzger was born September 3, 1934 in Bolton, Kansas to Clarence E. Ransbottom and Murle M. Smith Ransbottom.  She attended Fairview 59 school through the eighth grade and high school in Independence, Kansas.

 

       On July 9, 1950, at Bolton Friends Church, Deloris married Glen L. Moore, Jr.   In October of 1950 he was  called into the United States Navy during the Korean War, and Deloris made her home with him in Richmond and Alameda, California until he was sent to Japan.  At that time, she returned to Independence to live with her parents until he returned home thirteen months later.  They made their home in Wichita, Coffeyville, and then settled in Independence until Glen passed away in 1977.

 

       Four children were born to Deloris and Glen, Jr:  Glenda Jene, Dianna Moore Simmons Wolf, Marlyn Moore Hills, and Chris Moore.

 

       Deloris worked as secretary at Chapel of Praise Church for seventeen years.  In 1994 she married Bob Metzger and moved to Lafontaine, Kansas.  Although the couple separated in 2005, when Mr. Metzger became ill, Deloris was his caregiver until his passing in 2016.

 

       Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Glenda Jene and Dianna Moore Simmons Wolf, husband Glen Moore Jr., two grandchildren – Derek and Lacy Crain, two great grandchildren – Damien and Jade Crain, three brothers – James, Carl and Forrest Ransbottom, and two sisters – Wilma Towery and Esther Mishler, as well as her second husband – Bob Metzger.

 

       Survivors are one son, Chris E. Moore and one daughter, Marlyn M. Moore Hills.  Grandchildren:  Jeremy Simmons; Amy (Marty) Easley; Marci (John) Gray; Alex (Meagan) Moore; and, Ariana (Andy) Shepherd.  Deloris is also survived by the following great grandchildren:  Jete Littell, Kelvin Heckman, Remington Easley, Brynlee Taylor, Easton Gray, Hudson Gray, Evie Moore, Savannah Shepherd, Aidy Gray, and Hunter Shepherd.  She was also blessed with a great great grandson, Adrian Hester.

 

       Deloris was a member of Journey Church and loved the Lord most of all, and family came next  She will be greatly missed by her loving family, as well as all her dear friends. 

 

       The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Eagle Estates for their tender care of Deloris in the last ten months, as well as our deep appreciation to Harry Hines Hospice.

 

A memorial service will be held at the Journey Church, Thursday at 2:00pm. Arrangements have been entrusted with Potts Chapel.
