Larry Dean Young

Larry Dean Young, 73, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. 

 

Larry was born in Larned, Kansas to Charles E. Young and Norma L. (Bishop) Gentry.  He grew up in Harrisonville, Missouri where he graduated high school.  After high school his family moved to Coffeyville and Larry worked at Ben Franklin Store at 8th and Buckeye.

He was drafted into the military where he served in Viet Nam in the U.S. Army.  After receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Coffeyville where he furthered his education by attending Coffeyville Community College. 

 

Larry worked for Medicalodges nursing home his entire career until his retirement.  After that, he coached little league and softball.  He volunteered as an umpire for softball.  He donated many years of service to the Coffeyville animal shelter and was well known for going around each year selling tickets for the annual chili dinner fundraiser.  Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville where he attended church regularly. 

 

Surviving to honor his memory is his brother, Ed Young of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister, Sharon Allen and husband, John of Hope Mills, North Carolina.  Along with many other close relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Young and mother and step-father, Norma Gentry and Robert. W. “Bill” Gentry.

 

Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at the Veterans Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.  Pastor Dick Smith of the First Baptist Church will officiate. 

 

The family suggests memorials can be made to the Coffeyville Rec Center for Baseball and Softball; these can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
