Wanda Elaine Lindesmith

Wanda Elaine Lindesmith, 97 of rural Independence, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

 

She was born on October 17, 1922 in Chautauqua County, Kansas to Harry and Rena (Brown) Austin. When she was young her family moved to Emporia, Kansas where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Emporia High School and the College of Emporia before continuing her education in Nursing becoming a Registered Nurse during World War II.

On February 16, 1946 he married Charles H. Lindesmith at Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville where they raised their children. Mrs. Lindesmith later was employed as a Registered Nurse with Medicalodges in Coffeyville for many years until retiring. Her husband preceded her in death on June 10, 2006.

Mrs. Lindesmith was a longtime member of Tyro Christian Church; she was a founding member of Senior Saints now known as the Joy Group at her church.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Allen and husband, Blake of rural Independence, Kansas, and Dana Vermeire and husband, Tom of Dewey, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Lindesmith; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bill Mills; one grandson, Willy Austin Mills and four siblings.

 

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft and Brian Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow in Fawn Creek Cemetery northeast of Tyro. Casket Bearers will be Mrs. Lindesmith’s great-grandsons, Rex Washburn, Skye Richey, Grant Richey, Trey Richey, Bryce Richey, Kane Allen, Drew Hager and Franco Delpozo.

 

Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials to the Joy Group at Tyro Christian Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
