Marianna Walker

Marianna Walker, 67, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

 

Marianna was born on August 5, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas to Lloyd and Anna (Buckminister) Bowman.  She grew up in the Coffeyville, Kansas area where she attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley High School.

 

At a young age, Marianna started at Coffeyville Hospital as a “Candy Striper”.  She furthered her education at Pittsburg State University achieving her bachelor's of science in nursing (BSN).  She was part of the first graduating class at Pittsburg to earn their BSN.  Marianna worked in the ICU as a registered nurse for more than twenty five years at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

 

According to all that knew her, they felt Marianna had found her calling in life. The kindness and compassion she showed her patients was remarkable.  Many found comfort and relief in having her as their nurse or knowing that their loved was being cared for by her.

 

In September of 1976 she was united in marriage to Rick Walker in Coffeyville, Kansas.  The couple had two sons, Rickey and Dustin.  Together the couple owned and operated a video rental store called Colortrax on 8th street in Coffeyville during the late 1980’s until the early 1990’s.  For a short time the couple moved up north when a job opportunity presented itself for Rick.  Upon returning to the area she returned to work at CRMC until her retirement in 2013.

 

Marianna loved tending to her home and children.  She enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning vegetables.  She loved the time she spent surrounded by her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Rick Walker of the home; sons, Rickey Walker and companion Jennifer Meredith of Coffeyville, Dustin Walker and wife, Elizabeth of Pittsburg, Kansas; step daughter, Tracy Yandell of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Malorie, Taylor and Beckett Walker, Bailey and Drake Walker, Selena, Rhianna and Nicholas Yandell; sister, Rebecca Monday and husband, Tony of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Anna Bowman and by her brother, Heath Vaughn.

 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville.  Pastor Randy DePriest will officiate.
