Georgia Rose York

Georgia Rose York, 102, presently of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Cherryvale Nursing and Rehab.

 

She was born on October 4, 1917 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Walter and Anna Volk.   He father was a home builder so the moved during her childhood, living in Kansas City, Miami, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City.  They returned to Coffeyville when she was a teenager and has lived in Montgomery County ever since.

 

In 1936 she married Paul W. York in Independence, Kansas.  He preceded her in death in 1993.  She worked briefly at an Independence industry that produced men’s pants, Lee’s in Cherryvale and for Emerson Electric.  However, she preferred her role as a homemaker and hung up her workshop apron for the kitchen apron.

 

Rose was a member of the Church of God.  She loved spending her time with her family, cherishing all the memories that were made throughout her long life.

 

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth York and Robert York; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul York; brother, Jack Volk and sister, Maxine Woods.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Patio in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Pastor Shannon will officiate.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 2:00 until 5 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
