Ruby Jewell (Berry) Koogle

Ruby Jewell (Berry) Koogle, age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in Fort Myers, Florida after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Ruby was born in Delaware, Oklahoma on September 14, 1934 to parents Arthur Berry and Hattie (Parsons) Berry.  She grew up in Nowata with her brothers Charley, Jim, and Johnny and graduated from Nowata High School in 1952.  After leaving home she earned a secretarial certification and moved to California and then to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she married Richard “Dick” Koogle in 1965.  In 1976, Dick & Ruby moved the family to Ingleside, Texas and then to Fort Myers Florida in 1982 to help Dick pursue his dream of building cruising catamaran sailboats.

Through the years Ruby always worked hard to provide for her family. She proudly served on the board of the Edisonia Chapter of ABWA, and cherished those many friendships. Most importantly to her, she had a strong commitment to Jesus Christ; she loved singing in the choir at Grace Church and participating in the study of God’s word. She devoted her life to a ministry of prayer and praise, and was passionate about helping anyone in need. Indeed, she lived out a heart of generosity as an overflow of the love of God, and has left a legacy of joy and faithfulness to inspire all who knew her.

Ruby will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her brother Johnny J Berry, her children Catherine “Kitty” Koogle (St. Petersburg, FL), Karen Murano (Fort Myers, FL), and Kevin Koogle (Orlando, FL) as well as their spouses, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Dick Koogle (02/27/19) in Fort Myers, FL.

In lieu of flowers kindly offer a donation to Hope Hospice (239) 482-4673. A graveside gathering will be held for family and friends to lay them both to rest on Saturday 11/23/19 at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas (2602 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville, KS 67337). A memorial for local family and friends will be held at a later date in Fort Myers FL.
