Mary Beatrice Schmidt

Mary Beatrice Schmidt, 87, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Medicalodge of Coffeyville.

 

She was born on May 26, 1931 at Abilene, TX to Seaborn Henry and Ola Belle (Parker) Lassiter. Mary grew up and attended school in Abilene, after graduating from Abilene High School she attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

 

On June 2, 1962 she married Chester Lee Schmidt at Lamesa, TX. Following their marriage they made their home in Fort Worth, Texas while her husband attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  After his graduation they moved to Mound Valley, KS where they lived for seven years, until moving to Coffeyville. After moving to Coffeyville Mary taught 3rd Grade at Dearing School until retiring after 40 years of teaching. Her husband, preceded her in death on September 16, 2007.

 

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Mary loved spending time with her family.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Maples and husband, Scott of Coffeyville, KS, and Donna Blumer and husband, Mark of Parsons, KS; one sister, Ruthette Swift of Jenks, OK; one brother, Don Lassiter of Waco, TX; four grandchildren, Sarah Reese, Jeyree Drury and husband, Shane, Jesse Blumer and Kaytee Blumer; and four great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one great-grandson, Max Reese.

 

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2019 at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville with her nephew Pastor Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.

 

Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

The family suggests memorials to Medicalodge Activity Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
