Sharon Kaye Smallwood

Sharon Kaye Smallwood age 78 of Caney, Kansas formerly of Tyro, Kansas passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Sharon was born on September 19, 1940 to John and Nadine (Edinger) Davis in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Sharon attended Coffeyville schools graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School.  She attended Coffeyville Community Junior College obtaining her associates degree.

On July 16, 1960 she married Donald "Donnie" Smallwood in Tyro where they made their home and raised their children.  Their home was often filled with more than just their family.  Together they had two children, Kelly and Shelly. Through their love for others they adopted as their own, Aaron and Karon, welcoming them home.  Often, there would be friends, or neighbors who would stop in for a visit, or stay for a while needing a place to live or even strangers knocking on the door, simply to take shelter from a storm.  Everyone was always welcome.   Donnie preceded her in death on February 27, 2003, but Sharon continued their legacy of opening her home, always making everyone feel welcomed.

Sharon was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and co-worker.  She had a unique personality and was loved by all that knew her.  Sharon was one of the original founding members of Tyro Christian Church, she has attended church there for over 58 years.  She could also often be found at Bible study, a thrift store, or a rummage sale, maybe even signing up for a "Free Drawing". One person's junk is often another's treasure; Sharon enjoyed finding a new purpose for those treasures.   She was also a dedicated PBR Bull Riding fan, traveling with her daughter to Las Vegas for the big show.  As a family the Smallwood's shared a love of showing and riding Appaloosa Horses.  They traveled showing horses all over the United States, in those travels they gained an additional family and circle of friends.  She was an active member of several Appaloosa Horse clubs over the years.  In most recent years she has enjoyed Adult Coloring books.

Those to carry on the family legacy include; children, Kelly Smallwood, Shelly Chaffin, Aaron Smallwood and wife April, Karon Starr and husband, Norman; grandchildren, Andy Smallwood, Madison and husband, Cody Hockett, Paige and husband, Bud Reed, MacKenzie Chaffin, Kristian James, Ernesto Williams, Jonnie Woods, Jaylon Woods, Jaron Woods, KaBria Smallwood, Jathan Woods and Niah Starr; 9 Great Grandchildren; brother, Larry Davis; nieces, nephews and a whole host of friends and extended family.  In addition to her parent, and husband she is now at rest with, her brother, John Robert and sister, Nancy.
