Richard Doyle Taylor

Richard Doyle Taylor, 85, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019 at his home.

 

He was born on June 17, 1933 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to Lee Wesley and Leona Mae (Kivett) Taylor. Doyle grew up in and attended school in Nowata County graduating from Lenapah High School in Lenapah, Oklahoma. He also attended Coffeyville Community College and McFarland Trade School.

 

Doyle was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army from May 27, 1953 until receiving his honorable discharge on May 13, 1955.

On November 25, 1956 he married Katherine Louise Winkler at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville until moving to South Coffeyville in 1958, in 1963 they returned to Coffeyville, returning to South Coffeyville in 1981. Doyle was employed as a butcher at Butcher’s Packing Co. later he became the manager of Butcher’s Firestone after Butcher’s closed he was welding manager at Jensen Mfg. and later welding foreman at Dixon, Ind until retiring in 1995. After his retirement Doyle stayed busy butchering for many local farmers, ranchers and game hunters.

 

He was a long time member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and a life time member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022. Doyle enjoyed hunting, fishing and he loved having fish fries, but his greatest joy was spending time with Kathy surrounded by their children, and their families, and close friends.

 

Left to honor Doyle’s memory are his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Taylor of the home; three daughters, Sherry Taylor Perkins and husband, Mike of South Coffeyville, OK, Tammy Taylor Thompson and husband, Roger of South Coffeyville, OK, and Penny Taylor Beecher and husband, Bradley of Carl Junction, MO; grandchildren, Tara Witwer and husband, Mike of Dearing, KS, Heath Perkins and wife, Kiesha of South Coffeyville, OK, Melissa Thompson of Broken Arrow, OK, Jeremy Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, Austin Thompson of Laveen, AZ, Krystal August and husband, C.J. of Carl Junction, MO, and Madison Beecher of Springfield, MO; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, John Logan Taylor; and one sister, Betty Colleen Taylor Robison.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Wesley Taylor and Leona Mae Taylor; two brothers, Donald Lee Taylor and Charles Kenneth Taylor; and two sisters, Katherine Taylor Bennett, and Wanda Darlene Taylor Johnson.

 

A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13th at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville with Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.

 

Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials in Doyle’s memory to Holy Name Catholic Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
