Carlton "Sonny" Parsons

Carlton “Sonny” Parsons, 77, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at CRMC in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

Carlton was born on March 3, 1941 on a farm west of Delaware, Oklahoma called Cocklebur Hill, to Hugh Parsons and Juanita (Keithley) Parsons.  As a young boy he moved to Nowata with his family to 803 Seneca in 1942.  He was educated in Nowata School System and graduated in 1960.  In the fall of 1961, he met the love of his life, Mary Sue White.  They were married in April of 1963 in Coffeyville, Kansas.  He and Mary Sue were the parents of one son, Terry Wayne Parsons.

 

He is survived by his son, Terry Parsons and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Jessyka Sue, Kelsy Lyn;  grandson, Jozey Lee; five siblings, Mabel Root of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mary Dick of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Virginia Lemmons of Hesperia, California, Roberta Hughes of Edmond, Oklahoma and Bill Parsons of Fontana, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Juanita Parsons and by the love of his life, Mary Sue Parsons.

 

As a young boy, Sonny loved to hunt and fish.  He truly loved the outdoors.  He played softball and baseball well into his 40’s.  He also coached for 18 years and after that his was an umpire.  Sonny traveled with his granddaughters from Grand Junction, Colorado to Richmond, Virginia where Jessyka played for the Babe Ruth Little League Softball World Series.

 

He was a member of the South Coffeyville Lions Club, the Nowata Bass Club and the Nowata Archery Club.  He also served on the board of directors for the Ball Cemetery for more than 20 years.  He was a perpetual life member of the Masonic Lodge #477 in Delaware, Oklahoma.  He went through the chairs and served as the Worshipful Master.

 

Sonny worked for Parmac for 30 years.  He retired from Parmac and went to work for Thompson Brothers Welding Supply in 1996.  He retired from Thompson Brothers in 2003 and went to work part time until 2014.

 

He was always a generous, friendly man and would never hesitate to help a friend.

 

Following Sonny’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma.  Pastor James Feltner will officiate.
