The Coffeyville Red Ravens closed out their 2026 campaign with one of their biggest wins of the year, knocking off the 14th-ranked Dodge City Conquistadors 28-20 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. A strong defensive effort helped Coffeyville overcome a turnover-filled fourth quarter and secure its second straight victory to finish the season under head coach Nick Dobler.
Dodge City opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal after Coffeyville went three-and-out, and the teams traded empty possessions before the Red Ravens found their footing offensively. John Nicholas led an 11-play, 83-yard drive, capping it with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bird-Winston on second-and-goal. It was Bird-Winston's first touchdown of the season, giving Coffeyville a 6-3 lead after the extra point was missed.
The Conquistadors answered with a lengthy drive that chewed up nearly all of the remaining second quarter clock, including a successful fake punt on fourth-and-two near midfield to extend their march. They eventually found the end zone when Tim Carpenter connected with receiver Omarion Lewis on a four-yard touchdown pass, putting Dodge City ahead 10-6 at halftime.
The Conquistadors had another opportunity to add points before the break after Nicholas fumbled inside his own 30-yard line with under thirty seconds remaining before the break, but Coffeyville's defense blocked a 33-yard field goal attempt to keep the game within reach.
Dodge City extended its lead less than a minute into the second half when Carpenter broke loose for a 79-yard rushing touchdown, but he left the game after landing awkwardly on his right shoulder as he was taken to the turf falling into the end zone, and the Red Ravens took advantage of the change at quarterback to work their way back into the game down 17-6.
T.J. Ward finished off two Coffeyville scoring drives, first punching in a three-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal and later finding the end zone from six yards out. The second score put the Red Ravens ahead 20-17, after failing to convert the two-point attempt.
Dodge City tied the game with a 42-yard field goal with 10:19 remaining, setting up a wild finish. Nicholas threw three interceptions on three consecutive series, but the Conquistadors couldn't turn any of them into points, as CCC's defense stood tall.
Nicholas' third pick set up Dodge City at the Coffeyville 41-yard line with 1:22 left, but the Conquistadors were pushed backward by an 11-yard sack before Coffeyville linebacker Dayontay Standifer stepped in front of a pass intended for the right flat and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown. Coffeyville converted the two-point attempt to take a 28-20 lead with less than 35 seconds remaining.
The Conquistadors fumbled the ensuing kickoff, allowing the Red Ravens to close out the victory and celebrate a strong finish to the season. Coffeyville finished 4-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play, winning its final two games after a difficult stretch.
Dobler will enter his fourth season at the helm in 2027, with the Red Ravens hoping to carry that late-season momentum into the offseason and build on the progress made down the stretch.
