The Caney Valley Bullpups improved to 9-0 with a 66-6 win over Jayhawk-Linn last Thursday, moving one victory away from reaching double-digit wins for the season under head coach Criss Davis.
The Bullpups once again got off to a quick start, continuing a trend that has seen them score a touchdown on their opening possession in all but one game this season.
Davis says his defense once again stood out, as the Bullpups kept the Jayhawks’ rushing attack in check and came away with two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
Caney Valley will face Royal Valley in the regional round tonight after the Panthers defeated Baxter Springs 32-14 in Week 9. Davis says the two teams are similar, as both deploy run-heavy offenses and pride themselves on physical play. He believes that physicality will be a deciding factor in tonight’s matchup.
The Bullpups will have home-field advantage as the higher seed, hosting the 10th-seeded Panthers. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on US 98. The winner will advance to face either Sabetha or Silver Lake in the sectional round next Friday.
