Chiefs Fall to Broncos After Late Comeback in Denver

Categories: Local Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to take the lead with a game-winning touchdown drive in the final seconds Sunday afternoon, but came up short on fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line as time expired, falling to the Denver Broncos 28-24 in an AFC West showdown at Mile High.

The Chiefs carried a 24-13 lead into the fourth quarter after Patrick Mahomes threw his third touchdown pass of the afternoon, however, Kansas City couldn’t hold onto the advantage as Denver rallied late to escape with the victory.

Head coach Andy Reid says penalties were a major factor in the loss, including a false start that wiped out what would have been the go-ahead touchdown with less than 10 seconds remaining. The penalty was called on right tackle Jaylon Moore.

The Chiefs fall to 5-2 and move into second place in the AFC West, a half-game behind the Broncos. Kansas City will look to bounce back next Sunday when it returns home to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the struggling New York Jets. Pregame coverage begins at 11 a.m., with kickoff set for noon on the Mighty 690.
