Kansas Women's Soccer Climbs to No. 14 After Comeback Victory

Categories: Local Sports

The No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks women’s soccer team rallied for a dramatic 3-2 victory over TCU last Sunday, scoring twice in the final 12 minutes to secure a Big 12 road win and move up in the NCAA rankings.

Kansas struck within the first 10 minutes, but the Horned Frogs answered with two goals to take the lead in the first half. The Jayhawks then found the net twice late in the match to complete the comeback against a tough opponent.

Head coach Nate Lie says he liked how his team came out on the front foot and felt the Jayhawks could have added a few more goals early. However, missed chances allowed TCU to find its rhythm and get back into the game.

With a renewed sense of urgency in the second half, Lie says the next 45 minutes from his team was the best showing of control he’s seen from his squad against a consistent opponent. The Jayhawks maintained possession in the attacking third and eventually broke through TCU’s defense.

Kansas improves to 12-3-2 overall and 6-1-2 in conference play. The Jayhawks will continue their trip through Texas tomorrow with a visit to Houston, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
