The Caney Valley Bullpups finished the regular season undefeated with a 52-6 victory over the Galena Bulldogs last Friday and will begin their postseason run tonight as the No. 2 seed on the east side of the Class 2A bracket.
Caney capped off an 8-0 regular season with a flurry of interceptions, solid special teams returns and timely running from senior Traxcyn Garton.
Head coach Criss Davis says all three phases of the game stood out to him, and he was proud of how his team consistently maintained control throughout the contest.
The undefeated regular season is the second of Davis’ tenure as head coach. He says the best teams don’t always win in the postseason, but the teams that want to be there do, and the Bullpups are entering the playoffs with plenty of excitement.
Caney Valley will face No. 15 seed Jayhawk-Linn tonight in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff set for 6 p.m. on US 98. If the Bullpups advance, they will face the winner of Baxter Springs and Royal Valley.
