Erie Rallies for Victory Ahead of First 8-Man Playoff Appearance

Categories: Local Sports

The Erie Red Devils and head coach David Pitts rallied to defeat West Elk 62-24 in Week 8, finishing the regular season 4-4.

After falling behind by two scores early, Erie battled back and held the Patriots to just one touchdown in the second half, delivering a dominant performance over the final two quarters.

Pitts says he knew West Elk would deliver some early body blows and that his team would need to weather the storm. He was proud of how the Red Devils responded and fought their way back into the game.

Erie will open the postseason against South Sumner, a team it lost to earlier this season, 66-12, and the Red Devils are excited to compete in the playoffs during their first season as an 8-man football team. Pitts says the Red Devils will need to contain the Outlaws’ early offensive momentum and make sure they don’t get on a roll like they did the last time the two teams met.

If Erie advances, the Red Devils will face the winner of Solomon and Chase County, giving them a chance to continue their strong finish to the season.
