Reloaded Kansas Backfield Filled With Trio of Transfers

The Kansas Jayhawks are entering their third week of fall practice, with head coach Lance Leipold and his team preparing for their 2026 season opener against Long Island on September 4.

Kansas will once again look to establish a strong ground game, with transfers Dylan Edwards, Yasin Willis and Jalen Dupree joining the backfield this season.

Leipold says he's encouraged to see the group getting back to full health after injuries impacted the Jayhawks' running backs throughout the 2025 season.

Edwards, Willis and Dupree arrive at Kansas from Colorado, Syracuse and Kansas State, respectively, giving the Jayhawks a variety of threats in the backfield. Leipold says each player brings something different to the group.

Edwards and Willis were both named to the preseason Doak Walker Award watch list, putting two Kansas running backs among the players to watch as the college football season approaches.
