The University of Tulsa’s men's basketball team fell to Auburn in last night’s National Invitational Tournament Final, 92-86. The Golden Hurricane trailed by as many as 21 points in the first half, but stormed back with a 24-to-2 run in the second half.
Tulsa led by five with a minute to go, but a couple of Auburn three’s and a Tulsa turnover on a five-second violation sent the game to overtime.
Auburn took that momentum at the end of regulation into the extra period and won its first NIT Championship. Tulsa was previously 2-0 in the NIT’s final game.
It concludes just the second 30-win season ever for Tulsa. This was their head coach, Eric Konkol, after the game.
The last time Tulsa basketball won this many games, Bill Self was the head coach back in 1999-2000.
