Royals Steal the Show in World Baseball Classic

While team Venezuela defeated the United States to win the 2026 World Baseball Classic, it was the Kansas City Royals who occupied much of the spotlight. In all, 14 Royals participated in the international tournament, including three from gold medalist Venezuela.

Third baseman Maikel Garcia was named MVP of the entire event, hitting .385 in seven games for Venezuela with seven runs batted in and three stolen bases. He played alongside two Royals teammates: catcher Salvador Perez and pitcher Luinder Avila.

Bobby Witt Jr. played six games at shortstop for the United States, where he captured the nation's attention with diving stops in the field.

Perhaps the surprise of the WBC was Italy's run all the way to the semifinals. Two mainstays in the Kansas City lineup helped power them there, in Jac Caglianone and Vinnie Pasquantino.

These players all return to Royals spring training as they prepare for opening day on March 27 in Atlanta against the Braves.
