Caney wrestlers make a strong finish to the season at this week’s state tournament in Hays.

 

Caney boys qualified 11 wrestlers for the state tournament and, of those 11, six brought home medals.  Bringing home 6^th place medals were Silas Good at 120, Huck Seger at 132, Noah Henderson at 150, and Austin Freisberg at 190.  Raydn Martin finished 5^th in the 215 class and Booke White brought home a 3^rd place bronze medal at 285. As a team, the Caney boys finished in 2^nd place as Class 3-2-1A State Runner-up.

 

The Caney girls team made an outstanding showing as well with Bryleigh Rigdon taking 3^rd at 125 while Sierra Loader brought home the silver, taking 2^nd at 115.

 

At the Class 4A tournament in Salina, Coffeyville’s Brennan Westervelt finished his high school career with a 4^th place finish in the boys 157 pound weight class while Chloe Mund, also of Coffeyville, took home 5^th at 125.

 

State Champions from southeast Kansas include Mason O’Banion of Columbus  in boys 190, and Addilyn Wacker of Iola in girls 130.

 

Chanute’s Kiley Dillow took home her third state title, taking 1^st at 170. Dillow (finished her senior season undefeated at 38–0, earning a 21-6 technical fall over Molly Benes of Bishop Miege.
