Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College women's basketball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, in a narrow 67-64 loss to the Butler Grizzlies in El Dorado.
Tthe Red Ravens got off to a hot start, leading the game by seven points after the opening quarter. Freshman forward Esme Smith had 12 points in the opening 10 minutes, and finished the game with a team-high 14 points.
A second quarter scoring drought would prove to be costly for CCC, who watched a 10-point lead early in the quarter turn into a six-point halftime deficit, with Butler outscoring Coffeyville 20-7 in the second.
The Ravens would briefly re-take the lead in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies mad key plays down the stretch to ensure their 18th win of the season, and stay atop the conference standings.
Isabella Pehrson finished with 12 points for CCC on four made 3-pointers, while sophomore Aubrey Hishaw finished with a double-double, with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Ravens are 15-4 on the season, and 9-4 in league play, currently sitting in fourth place. The team is scheduled to travel to Independence on Saturday afternoon, weather permitting.
