Caney Looks To Reign In Mustangs in Doubleheader Basketball Action Tonight

The Caney Valley Bullpups travel to Iola tonight to take on the Mustangs in girls and boys non-district basketball matchups.

The Lady Bullpups enter tonight with a strong 9-1 record, coming off a solid 60–54 victory Tuesday night against Cherryvale. They start off games slower, but strong 2nd halves help them average almost 62 PPG. The inside presence of Molleigh Kaminska and Ameris King-Dunn have helped open up three-point shots by Alysa Scott and Elyn Washburn, and the great defensive skills of Audrey Regis, Alex Theiss and Mylea Baker have helped control the opposing team's offense.

The Iola Lady Mustangs are 3-6 on the season, averaging just over 32 PPG.

The boys game promises plenty of action as both teams have had notable performances this season. Iola (4-6) has shown flashes of scoring firepower, including a 74–28 win over Central Heights and a 70–31 victory over Prairie View.

The Bullpups (8-2) have some high scoring wins as well, like a 79–60 win over Erie and a 75-47 victory over West Elk. In past meetings, the Bullpups have edged the Mustangs in postseason play, including a 56–39 win last season,

This season, the Bullpups average over 71 PPG, while Iola averages 52 PPG.

The down-low trio of Payton Darden, James Kister and Angel Martinez has provided great post offense and rebounding on both ends of the floor, whie Layne Denny and Traxcyn Garton have sparked the offensive side through three-point shooting and incredible drives past the opposing defenders.

Pregame starts around 5:50, with the girls tip-off at 6:00 on Classic Hits 104.1 (CCC Basketball is on U-S 98). The boys game will immediately follow.
