The Caney Valley Bullpups swept the Cherryvale Chargers in homecoming basketball action Tuesday night; the Lady Bullpups win 60-54 and the boys won 65-34.
Elyn Washburn had 18 of her team leading 22 points in the 2nd half, while Molleigh Kaminska added 21 for the Lady Bullpups, who improved to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in Tri-Valley District play.
It was tied 23-23 going into the half, but Caney outscored the Lady Chargers 19-16 in the 3rd and 18-15 in the 4th to pull away for the win.
The boys used big 1st and 3rd quarters to pull away from the Chargers. Caney outscored Cherryvale 25-6 in the 1st quarter and 21-10 in the 3rd quarter. Layne Denny and James Kistler led the Bullpups with 15 points apiece while Traxcyn Garton and Payton Darden added 12 points each.
During halftime of the boys game, Darden and Bryleigh Rigdon were named Homecoming King and Queen.
Caney travels to Iola Thursday to take on the Mustangs. Coverage will begin around 5:50 on Classic Hits 104.1, due to the CCC Broadcast on U-S 98.
