The South Coffeyville boys and girls teams fall to Copan
The Copan Lady Hornets thrilled the home crowd Tuesday night, defeating the South Coffeyville Lady Lions 40-39 on a dramatic buzzer-beater that sealed the win as time expired.
Neither team was able to gain much separation during the contest, as both defenses limited clean looks and forced tough shots. South Coffeyville matched Copan basket for basket, answering every Hornets surge with timely scoring of its own. As the final minute ticked away, the Hornets were down 39-38, tension filled the Copan gym with fans on their feet anticipating a dramatic ending.
That moment came at the buzzer, when Copan’s final shot dropped through the net just as time expired, securing the one-point victory on its home floor. The thrilling finish capped off a memorable night for the Lady Hornets and provided a momentum-boosting win moving forward, while South Coffeyville narrowly missed pulling off a road victory.
The boys fell 64–37 in a rematch between the two rivals. Copan jumped out to an early lead and maintained control throughout the contest, using a strong offensive performance and steady defensive pressure to keep the Lions from finding any rhythm.
It was the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with Copan also coming out on top in their first matchup earlier this year by a score of 59–42. Much like the earlier contest, the Hornets were able to dictate the pace of play, limiting South Coffeyville’s scoring opportunities while capitalizing on transition points and second-chance looks.
