Red Raven basketball begins conference play this week, with both the women's and men's teams still having no losses to this point in the season.
The Lady Ravens finished the non-conference schedule 6-0 after a perfect weekend at the El Dorado Classic. After a win over Bethany JV on Thursday, CCC rallied from down in the fourth quarter to beat McCook on Friday, 59-51. Sophomore guard Bella Pehrson says the team was able to stay composed while trailing.
Coffeyville was down three players late in Friday's game, with both Shae Wright and Carly Dameron out due to injury, and Aubrey Hishaw fouled out. Head Coach Tony Turner says other players stepped up when it mattered most.
The men's team is 5-0 on the season after a 74-64 win over NEO at Nellis Hall on Saturday. Tyson Tucker led the team with 17 points, however the Ravens have had four different leading scorers in the first five games. Tucker says this is one of the most talented teams in JUCO.
CCC has battled some of the nation's top programs in non-conference play this season. Assistant Coach Jordan Bailey says this team has already gained valuable experience for league play.
Both teams open conference play with the Butler Grizzlies, who travel to Nellis Hall on Wednesday night.
