South Coffeyville Lions football is heading to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, officially sealing their postseason fate this week.
The team has battled all season long under first year head Rich Giesen, winning four games so far in 2025 after winning just seven games combined in the past seven seasons.
The team did suffer a defeat to Oaks Mission last week. Giesen says there were problems on special teams, and the team is working to correct them.
The Lions host Medford this week in their regular season finale, with Medford being the top-ranked team in the district. Giesen says it's all about improving, and putting yourself in the best position for the playoffs.
The Lions will then travel over three hours to Sasakwa for their first playoff game in eight seasons, looking to advance further than they have in program history.
