Ravens Stun Garden City on Last Second FG

Red Raven football bounced back in a big way, traveling to Garden City and defeating the No. 4 Broncbusters 26-24, winning the game with a field goal as time expired.

Garden City got off to a strong start, scoring a 20-yard touchdown on their opening drive, when quarterback Paco Mitchell connected with wide receiver Cenard Bennett. CCC would respond in the early portion of the second quarter, when quarterback Mac Armstrong found tight end Ryley Zalusky for a 14-yard score, tying the game at seven.

The Broncbusters scored twice before halftime, on a Mitchell 1-yard touchdown run, and a 33-yard field goal, to take a 17-7 lead to the break.

The Red Ravens would seize control in the third quarter, with two passing touchdowns from Armstrong, one to Khris Thomas, and one to Anthony Johnson, giving the Ravens a 21-17 lead. After Garden City briefly took the lead with a minute to go, Armstrong led the Ravens down the field into field goal range, where Aidan Burgess connected on the kick to win it for Coffeyville.

CCC improves to 1-1, and wins their Jayhawk conference opener, while Garden City falls to 2-1 on the season. The Ravens return to Coffeyville, and host the Butler Grizzlies next Saturday night.
