Royals Catcher Hits 300th Career Home Run

One of the greatest hitters in Kansas City Royals franchise history reached a pair of major milestones over the weekend.

Catcher Salvador Perez homered twice in Saturday's game against the Phillies, the second of which was the 300th long ball of his career.

Perez becomes the eighth primary catcher in MLB history to reach the 300 home run club, and becomes the 10th active player to reach 1,000 career runs batted in. To qualify as a primary catcher, a player must have spent 75% of games behind the plate.

Manager Matt Quatraro says that Perez's impact goes well beyond the box score.

The longtime Royal joins an exclusive club of legends, with Hall of Famers Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Ivan Rodriguez, Mike Piazza, Carlton Fisk, and Gary Carter among other catchers to reach 300 in their career.
