The Caney Valley Bullpups scored on their first play from scrimmage and never looked back, as they defeated the Humboldt Cubs last night 38-0.
Junior Traxcyn Garton took the handoff from quarterback Layne Denny, went to the left, then reversed direction and got around the edge, leading to a 49-yard run for the first CVTD of the season. Three of the first four drives for the Pups led to touchdowns and 2-point conversions, giving Caney a 24-0 lead at halftime.
The Caney defense stopped the Cubs offense from starting the 2nd half with a score, then the Pup offense extended the lead to 30-0 after a failed 2-point conversion.
Humboldt QB Ty Shaughnessy ran an efecient offense, but penalties and a wet field prevented them from finding the end zone. Humboldt will travel to Cherryvale Friday night in week 2 acrtion.
Caney is on the road Friday as well; they travel to Erie to take on the Red Devils.
