Caney Starts Season Strong With Win Against Humboldt

The Caney Valley Bullpups scored on their first play from scrimmage and never looked back, as they defeated the Humboldt Cubs last night 38-0.

Junior Traxcyn Garton took the handoff from quarterback Layne Denny, went to the left, then reversed direction and got around the edge, leading to a 49-yard run for the first CVTD of the season. Three of the first four drives for the Pups led to touchdowns and 2-point conversions, giving Caney a 24-0 lead at halftime.

The Caney defense stopped the Cubs offense from starting the 2nd half with a score, then the Pup offense extended the lead to 30-0 after a failed 2-point conversion.

Humboldt QB Ty Shaughnessy ran an efecient offense, but penalties and a wet field prevented them from finding the end zone. Humboldt will travel to Cherryvale Friday night in week 2 acrtion.

Caney is on the road Friday as well; they travel to Erie to take on the Red Devils.
