The Kansas City Royals have made their second notable addition in advance of Thursday's trade deadline, acquiring an outfielder from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Randal Grichuk was traded to Kansas City over the weekend, and made his Royals debut in a 4-1 win yesterday. Relief pitcher Andrew Hoffmann was the return for Arizona, who made his MLB debut earlier this season, but has spent the majority of the year in Triple A.
General Manager J.J. Picollo says the team was looking for ways to improve the overall depth of both the team and the bench.
Grichuk is hitting .243 in 69 games this season, and historically hits left-handed pitching very well, to the tune of an .827 OPS against southpaws. He says he's excited to help the team chase a playoff spot.
Kansas City continues their home stand against the Atlanta Braves, before traveling to Toronto to battle the Blue Jays this weekend.
