One of the longest tenured football coaches in Southeast Kansas is calling it a career after 25 seasons.
West Elk Patriots head coach Chris Haag has announced his retirement from coaching, with Ian Denton taking over as the next Patriots head coach.
Haag began his head coaching career in 2001. He says he knew he wanted to go into coaching from an early age.
West Elk built a program standard of not only winning games on the field, but also building quality people off the field. Haag says the off-field work was the part he takes most pride in.
Haag was able to coach his son, Trent, for the past four seasons, with West Elk going 34-6 in that span. He says that was the final milestone he needed to check off.
Coach Haag finishes his career with a 131-99 record across 25 seasons in Howard.
