The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to make moves to maintain their championship roster, agreeing to a contract extension with a key starter.
Forward Chet Holmgren has signed a five-year maximum rookie contract extension with the organization, worth a guaranteed $239 million, and could be worth us much as $250 million.
ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania says the two sides made this a priority early.
Holmgren is just 23 years old, and was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks per game, and broke a record for most blocked shots in an NBA Finals Game 7.
Charania says the Thunder can expect Holmgren to get even better.
OKC also inked MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a four-year extension last week, and will now shift focus to extending the third star of the core, two-time All-Star Jalen Williams.
