Kansas Grants Extension for Chiefs Stadium Deal

The future of Kansas City Chiefs football in the state of Kansas will remain a possibility at least for another year.

Kansas lawmakers, led by Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson, have reached a decision to extend the deadline of the stadium proposal to bring the Chiefs to Kansas, until June 30, 2026.

The decision comes following a letter last month from Chiefs President Mark Donovan, in which he requested an extension to the original deadline date of June 30, 2025. The offer allows the franchise to move from the Missouri side of Kansas City to the Kansas side, receiving a new stadium.

Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt has been consistent in his desire to have a domed stadium, bringing the possiblity to host Super Bowls and other major events. The current lease with Truman Sports Complex runs through January of 2031, giving the organization plenty of time to weigh their options.
