Numerous area baseball and softball teams have punched their ticket to the state tournament, after clinching region championships yesterday.
Cedar Vale-Dexter won the 1A Sedan Regional in convincing fashion, defeating West Elk 15-1, and improving to a dominant 25-1 on the season. The Patriots were the No. 6 seed in the bracket, and have their season end at 8-17.
Fort Scott softball is heading to state after a 6-4 win over Topeka Hayden to win 4A East Region #3, which was held at Fort Scott Community College. The Lady Tigers were led by Allie Brown, who hit .714 during regionals with a walk and home run.
On the baseball field, the Columbus Titans are champions of the 3A Riverton Regional, defeating Frontenac 6-2 in the title game. The Titans had to defeat No.5 seed Galena, top seed Caney, and No. 3 seed Frontenac to win the championship.
Regional playoff action continues through the rest of the week across the state.
