Columbus Freshman Ties State Record

A Columbus freshman made history on the baseball field, tying a state record and accomplishing something that hadn't been done in nearly 15 years.

Kash Smith had a game to remember against Galena, hitting two grand slams and driving in nine runs in the Titans' win over Galena. Smith ties the state record for most grand slams in one game in Kansas history.

Other high school baseball players to accomplish the feat were Tramer Ray of Medicine Lodge in 1999, Derek Layton of Wellsville in 2011, and Cody Garvin of Baxter Springs in 2005.

Kash and the Titans are 9-3 on the season, and winners of four in a row. They travel to take on Coffeyville-Field Kindley on Thursday afternoon.
