Former Royals Pitcher among Dozens Killed in Dominican Republic

 

A former Royals relief pitcher is among dozens killed after a roof collapse in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

 

Octavio Dotel passed away at the age of 51, following a Santo Domingo nightclub had the roof collapse in the early hours of Tuesday morning. At least 44 people are dead with 160 others injured, and crews still searching through the damage.

 

Dotel was signed by the Royals in the fall of 2006, and spent one season with the team before being traded to Atlanta in 2007. Dotel spent time with 13 teams, a record at the time, and won the 2011 World Series as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

Dotel finished his career in 2013 with an ERA of 3.78 in 758 career games, serving as a reliable 7th and 8th inning reliever for a majority of his career.
