The Caney Valley Bullpups sweep the Erie Red Devils in doubleheader basketball action last night on Senior Night at Caney Valley High School; the girls won 79-31 and the boys won 79-60.
Elyn Washburn led the Lady Pups with 21 points on 7 three-pointers, while Sarah Martinez had 13 and Alex Theiss added in the win. The Lady Pups scores 20+ points in each of the first three quarters to pull away from Erie. Caney's girls improve to 13-6 on the season and 3-4 in district play.
The 2nd quarter proved to be the big difference in the boys game. Caney outscored Erie 24-9 in the quarter to come away with the win. Colt Hightower led the Pups with 31 points while Layne Denny added 14. The Bullpups were sharp from long distance with 10 three's. Caney improves to 16-3 on the season and 7-0 in district play, and claim the Tri-Valley League title.
The #5 Lady Pups will take on #12 Columbus Thursday night at 7:00 in the 3A Sub State Playoffs; the #3 Bullpups take on the #14 seed Cherryvale Friday night at 7:00 in the Sub-State #2 bracket. Both games will be at Caney Valley High School.
