The Kansas City Royals have locked up one of their key pieces to a new three-year extension through 2027.
Starting pitcher Cole Ragans agreed to the new deal on Friday night, which is worth a total of $13.25 million over the next three seasons. The extension buys out two of Ragans' arbitration years, and gives both the pitcher and the team a concrete number for the future.
Ragans says he looks forward to remaining a Royal for years to come.
The left-hander finished fourth in the Cy Young voting in 2024, and is among the best starting pitchers in all of baseball at just 27 years old. General Manager JJ Picollo says this deal allows Ragans to focus on baseball.
Ragans made his first Opening Day start last season, as well as his first All-Star game appearance, and first postseason game. He is the current projected Opening Day starter for the Royals once again in 2025.
