New members were inducted into the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens Sports Hall of Fame at a Banquet held Friday night at the Windsor Events Center. The new members inducted included 2011-2012 Baseball pitcher, Cole Webb, 2014 – 2015 Track and Field star Johnnie Jackson and the entire 1995 – 1996 Men’s Basketball team.
Johnnie Jackson said Coffeyville changed his life and a number of the other inductees echoed that sentiment. Jackson was a two time NJCAA National Champion in the indoor weight and a two time runner up in the outdoor hammer throw while on the Red Raven track and field team. After his time with the Red Ravens Jackson went on to LSU where he won the NCAA Championship in the Indoor Weight.
Cole Webb is in the CCC record book for the most wins, 9 by a Red Raven pitcher During his sophomore he pitched a no-hitter against Western Oklahoma State and in his next start against Redland had a no-hitter going until the final inning. Webb went on to pitch for Valparaiso University in Indiana where as a junior led the team in strikeouts with 57 and in his senior year led the team in wins with 7.
The 1995-96 Men’s Basketball team was the first team coached by Jay Herkelman, who will coach his 1,000th game as the Red Ravens Head Coach Saturday. Herkelman says the 95-96 team is the “team that started the tradition. The previous season the Ravens only had 3 wins all season while on 95-96 they notched at 2 -7 record while winning the Jayhawk East Conference Title. Members of the 1885-96 team included Peyton Leslie, Donell Mitchell, Rock Winston, Gerald Smith, D.J. Dangerfield, Mike Hart, Frank Forbes, Beau Sarwinski, Halim Abdullah, Ray Marshall and Shaddrick Jenkins.
