The Caney Valley Bullpups and Eureka Tornadoes split a basketball doubleheader tonight at Caney; Eureka wins the girls game 54-46 and the Caney boys win 84-30.
Eureka's press defense caused a disruption in the early part of the game, but Caney fought back to reduce the deficit to single digits.
Elyn Washburn and Sarah Martinez had eleven points apiece for the Lady Pups and Addison Regis added ten. The loss drops the Lady Pups to 10-1 on the season.
The Caney boys jumped out to a huge early lead, scoring 35 points in the 1st quarter. The press defense for the Pups only allowed Eureka four points in the first eight minutes. The press and the scoring continued in the 2nd quarter for Caney, leading 61-16 at the half. Caney was able to rest starters much of the second half because of the running clock.
Colt Hightower led Caney with 28 points, including five 3's. Layne Denny added 14, while Traxcyn Garton had eleven and Peyton Darden had ten. Caney improves to 8-3 on the season.
Another tough test awaits the Bullpups, as they travel to Neodesha Friday night in doubleheader basketball action.
